Oregon Green Tech Education and Certificate

Oregon receives funding that will further its objectives for green tech educational offerings leading to trained and certified workers entering the renewable energy industry. OIT will collaborate with Worksystems, Inc., community colleges and industry to drive the internship program for Oregon’s energy stakeholders. ...
... "The resources will be used to implement the Greening of Oregon’s Workforce project to develop local networks that will deliver training in green occupations. The State’s Green Jobs Council will be responsible for implementing the green jobs strategy which is mandated by Oregon State law, and will link to other state efforts, such as the Networks of Excellence that are emerging around green industries. Training will prepare workers for occupations in energy efficiency and renewable energy industries, including occupations that have long-term demand, offer the potential for high wage, career pathway jobs, and support local sourcing and innovation. Program partners will develop new curricula, adapt existing curricula, and complete development of the Oregon Green Tech Certificate. " ...

Solar Decathlon Germany House Technology Showcase

Team Germany's entry in the Solar Decathlon was designed and constructed by the Technische Universitat Darmstadt.

The roof panels and house exterior are integrated with solar photovoltaics. Single crystal panels are on the roof and thin-film CIGS are used on the exterior. The solar system is sized to make this house a significant net generator of power back to the grid. We will see how the team performs on the net metering criteria of the contest. It should do very well.

The two-story cube-shaped house has a nice exterior deck, modern kitchen and dining room, pull-out integrated beds and a cool loft design.

Solar Leads Cleantech Investment Space

Solar, electric vehicles and enabling infrastructure, and green building see uptick in investment, according to the Cleantech Group's market research. Deloitte and Cleantech collaborated to develop the quarterly investment results. ...
... "The billions in government funding being allocated globally in clean technology have begun emboldening private capital, which has in turn helped propel clean technology to the leading venture investment sector, now eclipsing biotech and IT, said Dallas Kachan, Managing Director, Cleantech Group. The two largest venture deals (Solyndra and Tesla Motors) and the largest IPO (A123Systems) this quarter were all recipients of U.S. government funding. ... " ...

Electric Vehicle Battery Testing

The President mentions specific companies to highlight their involvement in or connection to the clean tech industry as he discuss the country's investment in energy transformation. ...
... "And just last week I visited the Electric Vehicle Technical Center in Pomona, California, which is testing batteries to power a new generation of plug-in hybrids that will help end our dependence on foreign oil. I have to say, Susan, the battery I saw was bigger than that one that's on the desk -- (laughter) -- but that may be the direction we're moving. So innovators like you are creating the jobs that will foster our recovery –- and creating the technologies that will power our long-term prosperity. " ...

Enhanced Geothermal Systems

Google.org, Google's philanthropic arm, invests $10.25 million in Enhanced Geothermal Systems to support research on next-generation resource mapping, information tools, and a policy agenda. This technology is very promising in that it can provide energy 24 / 7 and is available arou nd the globe. ...
... "EGS expands the potential of geothermal energy by orders of magnitude. The traditional geothermal approach relies on finding naturally occurring pockets of steam and hot water. The EGS process, by comparison, replicates these conditions by fracturing hot rock, circulating water through the system, and using the resulting steam to produce electricity in a conventional turbine. SubFab Green Energy Innovation

Applied Materials is recognized for its innovative approach to the manufacture of thin film solar panels by the Platts Award. ...
... "The award highlighted the revolutionary SunFab, the worlds first and only integrated production line for manufacturing thin film silicon solar modules using 5.7 square meter (m2) glass panels. These ultra-large substrates, sized at 2.2m x 2.6m, are four times bigger than todays typical thin film solar modules. Key to the SunFabs success is that it can be replicated by customers around the globe to rapidly establish solar panel manufacturing capacity and achieve lower production cost per watt to drive down the cost of solar electricity. " ...
