Timberland is a leader in this regard and has had " ... a “nutritional label” on every box to educate consumers ... Where it was manufactured. How it was produced. And its effect on the environment...."

Taking this one step further is their " ... Green Index™ Rating ... to provide product-specific environmental impact information ... a scale of 0 (best) to 10 (worst), ... three key environmental factors: climate impact, chemical use and resource consumption. ... The Green Index™ rating will be carried on a select line of ... in 2007. ... goal is to have it on all of our shoes by 2010.
